Global Excellence Award Winner: Maia Elkin
Maia Elkin, Argentina
Nominated for: Innovative ideas and dedication resulting in many Argentinian Leagues being able to enjoy experiences that would otherwise have been inaccessible to them.

Over the years, Maia’s connection to Pokémon has evolved in near lockstep with the growth of her own family. Beginning as a player alongside her boyfriend, becoming a Judge while her now-husband was building a reputation as a competitive player, and stepping into the Professor Mentor role at the same time as her son Benjamin played at his first World Championships event, Maia’s journey is filled with achievements and unforgettable experiences.
“It’s been an incredible adventure,” she says. While that’s no exaggeration, it hasn’t always been easy. Between working full-time, raising a family, and continuing to give her all as a Pokémon Professor, Maia admits the pace can be intense. But with the support of her family and the Argentinian community she has helped to develop, she continues to thrive. “The effort is worth it,” she affirms. “Play! Pokémon has given me amazing friendships and the opportunity to connect with people from diverse cultures.”
While she is now a common sight among the Pokémon TCG Judge staff at Regional and International Championships, one of Maia’s proudest accomplishments is being part of the tight-knit but steadily growing Professor community back home in Argentina, where she began her Professor journey as a Judge at her local League. “Our Organizers and Judges pour their time and energy into making sure players have access to well-run Leagues and tournaments year-round,” Maia describes, and their effort is paying off. “Our community is proud to have players who have achieved high-level international titles, bringing recognition to our country and inspiring current and new generations of competitors.”

Complementing her flexibility in balancing multiple roles, both in her personal life and Professor journey, Maia feels a particular kinship with Water-type Pokémon. “Water types are known for their adaptability,” she explains. “They can take on many forms and thrive in any environment, just like I’ve adapted to many different roles across my journey as a Professor. I’ve always embraced change with dedication and strength.”
“Water also symbolizes depth and calm resilience,” she adds, “which reflects the professionalism and care I bring to everything I do.”
